Chery South Africa — Service Plans & Warranty, Decoded
“Chery comes with a 5-year service plan” is what the showroom says. The official retail price list says something more interesting: the included plan ranges from 3 years/30,000 km to 7 years/90,000 km depending on the model — and one variant quietly carries a longer factory warranty than the rest of the range. Intervals: first service at 5,000 km / 6 months — early, and easy to miss on a new car — then every 15,000 km / 12 months. Dealer-network documentation ties warranty validity to never missing or being late for a service at an approved centre; treat the 6-month first visit as non-negotiable.
The four fees that arrive ex-VAT
The price list’s fine print adds, excluding VAT: metallic paint R1,000 · two-tone metallic R3,000 · PDI kit R1,500 · admin/training levy R450. Small numbers — but they’re quoted ex-VAT while the car’s RRP includes it, which is how a “R269,900 car” invoices higher. Ask for the drive-away figure in writing.
Extending the cover — the Extender’s own fine print
Chery’s official Extender programme offers a Premium 2-year extension at R14,800 (incl. PDI), covering mechanical/electrical failure across engine, gearbox, differential, steering, suspension, brakes, A/C and electricals — with capped extras (strip & quote R3,000, towing R1,000). Three conditions deserve the highlight: the car must be under 5 years old with a full Chery-spec service history — and hybrid and electric vehicles are excluded entirely. A CSH owner cannot buy this extension; the 10-year battery warranty is the hybrid’s long-cover story, and it carries the first-owner asterisk above. Plan accordingly before, not after, the factory warranty runs out.
